Russell Vought, now the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, has directed staff to halt new rules, suspend effective dates of final rules, and cease new investigations. Vought, committed to implementing President Trump’s policies, issued directives to stop enforcement actions, investigations, public communications, and supervision activities at the CFPB. Additionally, Vought requested no funding for the CFPB’s third quarter of fiscal year 2025, stating that the bureau’s current balance is excessive.
