Guatemala strikes deal with Rubio to accept migrants from other countries deported from the US

Guatemala’s President Bernardo Arevalo announced a “safe third country” agreement with the United States during a meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, agreeing to accept migrants being deported from the U.S. The deportees will then be returned to their home countries at U.S. expense. Rubio’s focus on immigration during his Central America tour also included a similar agreement in El Salvador and an offer to accept American citizens jailed in the U.S. for violent crimes.
