Record-breaking snowfall hit Japan’s northern main island of Hokkaido, causing traffic disruptions and airport closures. The eastern regions of the island, including Obihiro and Kushiro, experienced record-breaking snowfall, leading to stalled vehicles and delayed deliveries. The Japan Meteorological Agency predicted up to 100 centimeters of snow in northwestern Japan and 50 centimeters more in Hokkaido over the next 24 hours, with closures of highways, main roads, and train services, as well as flight cancellations affecting thousands of people.
