ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), China’s leading DRAM chip producer, has advanced its manufacturing technology to 16 nanometres, narrowing the gap with industry giants Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, and Micron Technology. The company has developed a consumer-grade 16-gigabit (Gb) chip using DDR5 technology, achieving a storage density of 0.239Gb per square millimetre and featuring memory cells 20 per cent smaller than its previous generation. CXMT’s progress from its G1 to G4 technology nodes demonstrates significant advancements and serves as a benchmark for China’s growth in DRAM memory chips amid US sanctions.
