Cardiff University confirms plans to cut 400 jobs

Cardiff University has confirmed plans to cut 400 full-time jobs, close some courses, and merge schools due to funding shortfalls and declining international student applications. The Cardiff University and College Union (UCU) has called the cuts “cruel and unnecessary” and vowed to fight against compulsory redundancies. Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Larner stated that the university needed to make difficult decisions to adapt and survive, resulting in a slightly smaller institution with a formal consultation process for the 7% workforce reduction and program cuts.
