The death toll in a coal mine fire in southern Poland rose to three, with 16 miners injured at the Knurow-Szczyglowice coal mine when methane gas ignited 850 meters below ground level. Nine workers with severe burns were hospitalized, two of whom died from burns covering 80% of their bodies. Officials are investigating the cause of the blaze, which is not uncommon due to methane in Poland’s coal mines.
