University students lead a strike in Serbia as populist president plans a rally to counter protests

A student-led strike in Serbia shut down businesses and drew large crowds protesting President Aleksandar Vucic’s government, with daily blockades and marches in Belgrade and other cities. The strike aimed to demand accountability for a deadly canopy collapse in Novi Sad, believed to be a result of corruption. Vucic, facing accusations of stifling democratic freedoms, plans to counter protests with a rally, as students and citizens call for change and challenge his grip on power.
