United States coach Mauricio Pochettino assembled a 24-player squad for the January camp, emphasizing that it is not an “alternative” team but an opportunity for newcomers to compete for a spot in the overall player pool. Since 2002, 30 players who debuted in the January window have gone on to make World Cup rosters, with the 2022 squad including nine such players. Debutants Patrick Agyemang and Matko Miljevic impressed in a 3-1 win against Venezuela, with players getting another chance to shine against Costa Rica on Jan. 22 in Orlando.
