Congressman Chris Smith has announced a congressional investigation into reports that CDC used U.S. taxpayer funds from PEPFAR to pay for abortions in Mozambique, violating the Helms Amendment. Smith criticized the Biden Administration for promoting abortion with PEPFAR funds and plans to hold hearings to hold the CDC and Global Health Security Bureau accountable for their actions. He aims to restore PEPFAR’s original goals of preventing diseases without supporting abortion overseas, emphasizing transparency and accountability in the use of taxpayer dollars.
