The National Weather Service issued a cold-weather advisory for Chicago and other parts of the state this weekend due to “dangerously cold wind chills” of 20 to 25 degrees below zero from Sunday evening to Monday afternoon. NWS meteorologist Kevin Doom warned of frostbite in as little as 30 minutes, with wind chills of 20 below expected, and advised proper clothing and care for pets and elderly individuals. City officials announced the availability of over 209 warming facilities, including the Garfield Community Service Center, as temperatures are forecasted to drop even further Monday night into Tuesday morning.
