Five people, including two children, were hospitalized in Merksem, Antwerp, due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a faulty boiler. The high levels of carbon monoxide in the apartment were caused by the broken boiler, which led to the emergency call on January 11, 2025. To prevent such incidents, the Antwerp fire brigade recommends regular maintenance of heating appliances and the installation of carbon monoxide detectors in every house.
