In brief: Three-time Olympic medalist Shane Rose has fallen from his horse, sustaining multiple injuries that have landed him in intensive care.Rose has qualified for eventing at the Paris Olympics, and his team is hopeful he can recover in time to compete.Rose made headlines recently by wearing a “mankini” costume at a show-jumping event, which led to a complaint that threatened his participation in Paris before being cleared by Equestrian Australia.

Triple Olympic medalist Shane Rose faces the risk of missing the Paris Olympic Games after a serious fall from his horse left him in intensive care.

The 50-year-old team eventer was taken to the hospital following a fall from his horse Virgil during a cross-country session on Thursday.

Rose had virtually secured his Olympic qualification by winning an event in New Zealand last weekend, with his team announcing his accident on social media.

A Facebook post read, “As the saying goes, peacock one day, feather duster the next!”

The post mentioned that Rose had surgery to address his fractures and is currently in ICU with a broken femur, fractured pelvis and ribs, and a severe concussion.

Despite the unfortunate timing, his team remains hopeful that he will have enough time to recover and continue preparing for the Paris Olympics.

Rose, based in Werombi, west of Sydney, has won team silver medals at the 2008 Beijing and 2021 Tokyo Olympics, as well as a bronze in Rio in 2016.

He has qualified for the Games twice before in 1996 and 2012 but was unable to compete due to injuries to his horse.
