New photos show the volcanic plains of Mercury after a spacecraft fly-by

The BepiColombo spacecraft flew close to Mercury’s surface, capturing new images and data. This was the sixth fly-by since its launch in 2018 by the European Space Agency. The spacecraft’s final maneuver will allow it to separate, get into orbit around Mercury in late 2026, and gather more information. Mercury’s unique composition and extreme temperatures make it an intriguing subject for study.
