A Russian gas pipeline has erupted in a massive fireball blast amidst a series of ‘Ukrainian strikes’. To receive real-time breaking news alerts directly to your inbox, sign up for our breaking news emails.

Russia has been targeted by a cyberattack during the country’s fraudulent election, with Vladimir Putin accusing Ukraine of attempting to disrupt the polls, according to the Kremlin. The ruling party, United Russia, reported a widespread denial of service attack on its online platforms and has suspended non-essential services to counter the disruption.

In a separate incident, Ukrainian drones attacked two Russian oil refineries owned by Rosneft in the Samara region. The Syzran refinery caught fire, while an attack on the Novokubyshev refinery was prevented. Workers were safely evacuated from both facilities with no casualties reported.

Amidst the election, Russia experienced several cases of vandalism at polling stations, including a firebombing. These incidents occurred as citizens participated in a three-day presidential election that will extend Vladimir Putin’s rule for another six years.

The election is taking place in a climate of repression that has silenced independent media and rights groups, giving Putin complete control over the political system.
