Will Rogers’ ranch house, Hearst-owned motel burned by Palisades fire

The devastating Palisades fire in Southern California destroyed historic structures including Will Rogers’ ranch house and the Topanga Ranch Motel, both dating back to a bygone era. The fire, which charred nearly 16,000 acres and consumed over 300 structures, also caused significant damage to other notable sites such as Palisades Charter High School and the Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center. Additionally, the Topanga and Will Roger state park and beach were closed following the fire, which also resulted in the suspension of operations at the Pierson Playhouse within Theatre Palisades and the destruction of the Reel Inn seafood shack in Malibu.
