Turkey threatens military operation against Syrian Kurdish fighters

Turkey threatened to launch a military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria unless they accepted Ankara’s conditions for a “bloodless” transition after Assad’s fall, with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stating that military action would be taken if demands were not met. Ankara accuses the YPG of links to the PKK and demands that international fighters leave Syria, warning of military intervention if necessary. Turkey is prepared to take control of prisons holding IS jihadists if the new leadership is unable to do so, with Syrian leader Ahmed al-Sharaa stating that Kurdish forces should be integrated into the national army.
