U.S. transfers 11 Yemeni prisoners from Guantánamo to Oman

The Biden administration transferred 11 Yemeni detainees from the U.S. military prison in Guantánamo Bay to Oman, reducing the inmate population by nearly half. The men, held for over two decades without charges, were approved for transfer years ago. Oman will provide security monitoring and resettlement assistance. Diplomatic negotiations led to the transfers, as the men were prohibited from returning to Yemen. Additional inmates from other nationalities are also being prepared for transfer to other countries. The U.S. faces challenges in closing the facility before potential policy changes.
