The UK government is implementing plans to fast-track patients with bowel and lung conditions, cancer, and heart failure for scans and tests in order to reduce NHS waiting times. GPs will be able to directly refer patients for diagnostic testing, bypassing the need to see a consultant first. Patients with ear, nose, and throat, gynaecological, urological, and bowel complaints will benefit from earlier results, while a same-day service will be offered to thousands of patients in England to speed up diagnosis and treatment.
