Asia-Pacific stocks trade mixed as investors assess China manufacturing slowdown, Singapore GDP

Asian stocks traded mixed on Thursday as several major markets resumed trading after New Year’s Day holiday, with China’s Caixin/S&P Global manufacturing purchasing managers’ index falling to 50.5 in December, missing forecasts. Mainland China’s CSI 300 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index dropped, while South Korea’s Kospi fell slightly and the Kosdaq rose. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 gained, and Japan’s markets remained closed for the rest of the week as the Bank of Korea prepares for its next interest rate decision later this month.
