Syria's U.S.-trained opposition fighters wait to learn of their role in a new Syria

Salim Turki al-Anteri, the commander of the Syrian Free Army, led his opposition forces in battle against regime troops, using U.S. military training to avoid killing soldiers. He views all soldiers as his sons and aims to preserve equipment for a post-Assad Syria. His unit of 600 fighters awaits a role in the new Syrian security forces. The U.S. has trained Syrian opposition fighters at the al-Tanf base, located 200 miles from Damascus, where abandoned regime tanks now sit.
