The lawsuit alleged that Meta had used people’s Facebook photos without their consent for advertising purposes between January 1, 2011, and May 31, 2014, affecting thousands of residents in British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Newfoundland and Labrador. Privacy expert Sharon Polsky raised concerns about the use of children’s images and urged individuals who did not reside in the specified provinces during the class period to refrain from accepting the payment, with Meta providing a contact email for further inquiries at facebooksettlement@mnp.ca.
