Aleppo’s soap makers, now making their soaps in a free Syria

Aleppo’s soap-making tradition, dating back over 2,000 years, has faced challenges during the recent war, threatening the industry that has been passed down through generations. Despite the hardships, Aleppo’s historic markets are showing signs of revival, with increased business and a renewed interest in traditional goods. The soap, made from a blend of alkaline substances and olive oil, is a lengthy process that results in a high-quality product highly valued for its skin-soothing properties, with only 15 factories remaining out of 120 before the war.
