The Australian Federal Police and Australian Border Force intercepted over 740 consignments of drugs, discovering them hidden inside everyday items like paint brushes, bath products, and Christmas gifts, seizing more than 45 tonnes of methamphetamine, cocaine, and heroin. A WA couple attempted to smuggle over $120,000 worth of heroin inside their bodies, excreting 13 pellets containing 182g of pure heroin. Various seizures included a 900kg shipment of methamphetamine hidden in industrial machinery, 9kg of heroin in paint brushes, and 20kg of methamphetamine in wine bottles, herbal tea, and bath salts.
