Social media scammers are catching more Australians

From April to June this year, Australians reported 1,962 social media scams and 2,018 email/website scams, with losses totaling $64.2 million. Scammers are increasingly using fake profiles on social media to steal money and personal information. While phone call scams are less common, victims tend to lose larger amounts. The National Anti-Scam Centre advises caution when contacted on social media, as scammers may offer fake job opportunities or investment schemes.
