Waymo to begin testing in Tokyo, its first international destination

Alphabet-owned Waymo will begin testing its autonomous vehicles in Tokyo in early 2025, partnering with Nihon Kotsu and GO to test Jaguar I-PACE vehicles in key areas of the city. The company plans to train its AI systems using data from manned test drives and expects to remain in Japan for an extended period. Waymo’s move into Japan marks its first expansion into a left-hand traffic market, with the company aiming to become a beneficial part of Tokyo’s transportation ecosystem.
