Canada Post strike update: Workers to return to work Tuesday

Canada Post operations will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 8 a.m. local time following a Canada Industrial Relations Board order after negotiations with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers reached an impasse. Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon directed the board to intervene if a deal wasn’t reached by year-end, resulting in an extended contract period and a retroactive five per cent wage increase. The government’s use of section 107 of the Labour Code marked a creative solution to the situation, avoiding immediate binding arbitration and aiming to facilitate further negotiations.
