He was discovered by locals in the town of al-Thiyabiyah and released when opposition forces overthrew President Bashar al-Assad. Timmerman had been missing since attending church in Budapest, Hungary, seven months ago. He had a background in finance and law but returned home to write about nature and his Christian faith. His family had been worried about him, but he was found safe and is expected to return home.
