Nihon Hidankyo, a group of Japanese atomic bomb survivors, has been awarded the 2024 Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts to eliminate nuclear weapons, with members in their 80s and 90s accepting the award in Oslo. Co-chair Toshiyuki Mimaki expressed surprise at the win and emphasized the group’s mission to ensure nuclear weapons are never used again, including in conflicts like those in Gaza and Ukraine, as highlighted in Terumi Tanaka’s acceptance lecture recalling the devastation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
