The most recent update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has apparently allowed players to access a developer, or debug, menu that hints at potential downloadable content (DLC) plans for the PlayStation 5 game.
Aside from detailing some possible story expansion ideas, the menu also provides access to various potentially game-altering features, such as the ability to make the player character invincible. However, Insomniac Games, the developer, has cautioned players that using these elements could “corrupt your saves and trophy progress”. You can view the studio’s full statement on Twitter / X below.
⚠️ We’re aware the latest game update may have inadvertently allowed access to a development game menu. There’s a hotfix on the way. Please note that using this menu could corrupt your saves and trophy progress. There is no risk associated with playing the game as intended. March 7, 2024
Players have discovered how to access the developer menu by inputting a simple button combination on certain screens. These menus are typically used during development to test the game and quickly navigate between missions or inaccessible areas of the map, but are usually removed in the final release.
While not everything in the menu is confirmed to be in the game or still planned, it offers an intriguing look behind the scenes.
The potential DLC details have also sparked excitement, with the menu hinting at missions involving the character Beetle, exciting fans of the game series and comics. However, this information is not confirmed, so it should be taken with a grain of salt for now.
There is no official announcement regarding when the hotfix will be released, but it’s likely that Insomniac will want to address this issue promptly.
Additionally, the update has introduced New Game+ to the PS5 hit game, along with Mission Replay, new suit styles, photo mode enhancements, and additional accessibility options like audio descriptions and high contrast outlines.
