According to a survey by the Metropolitan Police Federation, almost 90 per cent of officers deployed to Notting Hill Carnival have felt unsafe while on duty, with many feeling like “lambs to the slaughter”. Event organisers dispute these claims, stating they are based on “unsubstantiated quotes and little solid data”. The annual celebration, known as Europe’s biggest street party, has been running for over 50 years, with efforts being made to improve safety for both the public and police at future events based on the survey results.
