Rory McIlroy insists he will never join LIV Golf

Rory McIlroy has softened his stance on LIV Golf recently, but he is not considering switching allegiances.

In interviews in January, McIlroy acknowledged that he had been too critical of the Saudi-backed LIV circuit and its players. He also stated that LIV players should not be punished if they wish to return to the PGA Tour.

When asked if he has thought about joining LIV amid the PGA Tour’s negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, McIlroy made it clear that money is not a deciding factor for him.

“It’s not for me,” McIlroy said. “I’m a traditionalist. I value the history of our game and the trophies won by legends like Sam Snead, Ben Hogan, and others.”

Despite his views, McIlroy expressed a desire for unity in men’s golf.

“If we can come together and move forward as a cohesive unit, I would support that,” he said. McIlroy previously served on the PGA Tour’s policy board but stepped down in November for personal reasons.

While the PGA Tour and the PIF are yet to finalize their agreement from last June, LIV Golf has already attracted players like Jon Rahm and is planning its 2025 schedule, according to CEO Greg Norman.
