Victoria Derbyshire Suggests Keir Starmer Was 'A Hypocrite' For Giving Louise Haigh Cabinet Job

Victoria Derbyshire questioned Pat McFadden on BBC about Keir Starmer appointing Louise Haigh to Cabinet despite her fraud conviction, which he was aware of when she was made shadow Northern Ireland secretary in 2020. During the partygate scandal, Starmer referred to “a lawmaker and a lawbreaker,” prompting Derbyshire to ask McFadden if Starmer was hypocritical for giving Haigh a Cabinet position. McFadden defended Starmer, stating that having a past conviction does not disqualify someone from Parliament, but acknowledged that Haigh’s resignation was a decision made between her and Starmer.
