Merck Foundation, in collaboration with African First Ladies and Ministries of Health, awarded a total of 2080 scholarships to doctors from 52 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, focusing on areas such as Preventative Cardiovascular Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Obesity. The scholarships aim to improve access to specialized care for diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular conditions, with a strong emphasis on community awareness and prevention efforts. Initiatives include the release of educational materials, animated films, and a song to promote healthy lifestyles among children and youth, in honor of World Diabetes Day.
