Empire State madness: Medicaid blob keeps growing

The Empire Center reports that 3 million New Yorkers earn too much to qualify for Medicaid or the Essential Plan, resulting in $20 billion in excess spending due to careless enrollment oversight. Enrollment in state-sponsored coverage has increased by 3.7 million over the last decade, mainly replacing private health plans, leading to inflated costs for everyone and contributing to the state’s ballooning budget of nearly $230 billion.
