The prosecution of 86-year-old white man Andrew Lester, charged in the wrong-door injury shooting of Black teenager Ralph Yarl in Kansas City, Missouri, is moving forward after a mental evaluation was completed and entered into the record. Lester, a retired aircraft mechanic, pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault and armed criminal action charges for shooting Yarl in April 2023, mistaking him for someone else. Yarl’s family is pleased the trial is proceeding, seeking justice and fairness in the case where Lester could face life in prison if convicted.
