Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah agreed to a permanent ceasefire brokered by France and the U.S., announced by President Joe Biden, ending a year-long conflict between the Jewish state and Iranian-backed groups. The deal, effective at 4:00 a.m. local time, aims to cease hostilities permanently, with Lebanon deploying forces over the next 60 days and Israel gradually withdrawing. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supported the ceasefire, emphasizing the focus on the Iranian threat and the completion of eliminating Hamas and returning hostages and residents to the north.
