Deirdre and Brian Madden from Galway city were awarded Lifetime Achievement awards by the Irish Red Cross for their decades of dedicated service. Deirdre, who has early-onset dementia, has been praised for her commitment to community service, while Brian has been involved in various relief efforts, including during the Pope’s visit to Galway in 1979 and the Galway fire in the 1970s. The Irish Red Cross, which has over 3,000 volunteers across 73 branches, commended the couple for their selflessness and compassion, highlighting their impact on the community and the organization’s mission of providing support in emergencies and promoting unity.
