RFU chief paid £1.1m despite record losses and job cuts

The Rugby Football Union’s annual report reveals record losses and 42 staff redundancies, despite CEO Bill Sweeney receiving a total remuneration of £1.1m for the last financial year. Sweeney’s pay increase comes amidst underperformance on the pitch and financial challenges, with the RFU citing inflationary cost rises and reduced revenues. The RFU defended Sweeney’s pay rise, stating it was necessary to retain a strong executive team during a challenging period.
