Government employees received nearly $150 million in standby pay last year, with some earning six-figure sums on top of their regular salaries just to be on-call. Public servants across various government departments and agencies were paid thousands — even millions — annually for standby pay, as revealed in documents in response to a query by Conservative MP Michael Barrett. The Canada Revenue Agency alone paid out over $1.9 million in standby pay this year, with 145 employees earning more than $5,000 for being on-call.
