Poland's conservative opposition party taps historian as presidential candidate

Warsaw, Poland’s Law and Justice party selected historian Karol Nawrocki as its presidential candidate for next year’s election, aiming to regain momentum after losing power in 2023. Nawrocki, 41, currently leads the Institute of National Remembrance and aligns with the party’s patriotic, pro-Christian, pro-NATO stance. The main governing party, Civic Coalition, will field progressive Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski, setting the stage for a competitive race in May 2025 with other candidates like Szymon Hołownia and Sławomir Mentzen also in the running.
