Momentum has been building for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s new DC Universe, with the animated Suicide Squad spin-off TV series Creature Commandos set to premiere on Max on December 5. Gunn is facing criticisms for focusing on “niche” characters like Swamp Thing, but he defends his choices by highlighting the characters’ popularity and potential. Despite developing projects centered around lesser-known characters, DC Studios also has plans for mainstream heroes like Superman, Supergirl, and Batman, aiming to create a balanced mix of well-known and obscure characters in the DC Universe.
