Disney CEO Bob Iger says studio “killed a few projects”

Disney CEO Bob Iger has disclosed that the studio has quietly terminated some projects it lost confidence in, but they have not made this information public.

While not every movie makes it to the finish line, studios like Warner Bros. have faced criticism for publicly shelving projects like Batgirl, Coyote vs. ACME, and others. According to Deadline, Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, admitted that his studio has also made similar decisions but chose not to publicize them.

Iger mentioned that Disney has already axed some projects that didn’t meet their standards, without specifying which projects or their progress. “We’re making a lot of decisions. When we talk about enhancing our film lineup, there are three main strategies,” Iger explained. “One of them is to let go of things that no longer align with our vision. It’s not an easy task in this industry because there may have been investments made, relationships with employees or the creative community. It’s a challenging process, but tough decisions have to be made.”

He added, “We have made those tough decisions, although we haven’t been vocal about it. You need to evaluate everything you’re working on and aim for perfection, not settling for mediocrity.”

Disney has faced challenges at the box office with some notable disappointments in the past year, but Iger remains optimistic about the studio’s ability to bounce back. “Being the top box office studio for seven out of eight years was no coincidence,” Iger emphasized. “It’s a combination of our intellectual property and the execution – both in management and creativity.” To steer things in the right direction, Iger mentioned that they would be closely collaborating with creators, providing detailed feedback, and engaging in a constructive process to enhance their projects. “Being relentless means not compromising on making something exceptional, whether it requires more resources or time. We are committed to putting out projects we truly believe in,” he concluded.
