Over 223k migrants have come to NYC so far — double Albany’s population

Since the asylum seeker crisis began in April 2022, more than 223,000 migrants have arrived in New York City, equivalent to double the population of Albany. Mayor Eric Adams praised the city’s efforts in providing care for this population, with over 58,000 still being supported by taxpayers in city-run shelters. The city has assisted with work authorization and temporary protected status applications, as well as purchasing tickets for migrants to reach their preferred destinations.
