Philippines, United States to sign military intelligence-sharing deal

The Philippines and the United States are set to sign a military intelligence-sharing deal called the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), deepening their security ties as defense treaty allies. The agreement allows for the secure sharing of military information between the two countries. This move comes as both nations aim to counter China’s aggressive policies in the South China Sea and near Taiwan, strengthening their mutual defense treaty dating back to 1951.
