How does this make you feel?

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority

Google had a bit of a rough start with its first smartwatch in 2022, but quickly found its footing. The Google Pixel Watch 2 is now one of the best smartwatches available, packed with great features. However, there’s always room for improvement. While we still have some time before the next model is released, here’s my wishlist for the Google Pixel Watch 3.

Durability could use improvement

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority

The Pixel Watch faced durability issues, particularly with its display, due to the thin glass used. While the Pixel Watch 2 made slight improvements, reports still indicate that it is prone to damage. The repair process is also difficult, requiring owners to rely on Google Pixel Watch Customer Support for repairs. The Pixel Watch 3 should prioritize durability by using thicker, more durable glass, even if it adds some bulk and cost.

The Pixel Watch 3 needs more sizes

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority

Google should offer multiple sizes for the Pixel Watch 3 to cater to different wrist sizes and preferences. Adding a 45mm option alongside the existing 41mm model would provide more choice for consumers.

While we’re at it, how about more colorways?

Rita El Khoury / Android Authority

The Pixel Watch 2 comes in limited metallic shades, but adding more vibrant color options like those seen in the Pixel phone series could make the Pixel Watch 3 stand out. Incorporating unique shades like Rose or Bay Blue would appeal to consumers looking for a more colorful smartwatch.

Safety Signal is a great idea, but it shouldn’t cost a dime

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority

Google should consider offering the Safety Signal feature for free to Pixel Watch 3 LTE users, rather than requiring a subscription. This would set the Pixel Watch 3 apart from competitors and provide a valuable service at no additional cost.

GPS accuracy needs to be improved

In our review of the Pixel Watch 2, we found the GPS accuracy to be inconsistent compared to other devices. Upgrading the GPS sensor for the Pixel Watch 3 would enhance its fitness tracking capabilities.

Will there be a Google Pixel Watch 3?

Kaitlyn Cimino / Android Authority

While there haven’t been many rumors about the Pixel Watch 3 yet, Google’s acquisition of Fitbit and improvements with the Watch 2 suggest that a new model is likely in the works. Based on Google’s launch history, we can expect the Pixel Watch 3 to arrive in Fall 2024 alongside the rumored Pixel 9.

Should you wait for the Google Pixel Watch 3?

If you’re interested in a Google-made watch, waiting for the Pixel Watch 3 may not be necessary, as it’s still several months away. The Pixel Watch 2 is already a great option and is relatively new, so it’s a good choice if you’re in the market for a smartwatch.
