A study presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions found that older adults with fluctuating blood cholesterol levels were more likely to develop dementia and cognitive decline. The research, involving almost 10,000 participants in their 70s over six years, showed that those with the highest fluctuations had a 60% higher risk of dementia. While the study did not prove a direct cause-and-effect relationship, it suggested that cholesterol variability could potentially impact brain function and serve as an early indicator of dementia risk.
