Afreximbank is actively participating in COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, to promote a just energy transition in Africa, aligning with the AU’s Nairobi Declaration and emphasizing climate finance, loss and damage compensation, and utilizing gas as a transitional fuel. The Bank will advocate for the operationalization of the Loss and Damage Fund, transparent finance mechanisms, and mobilizing climate finance to address Africa’s climate priorities and accelerate the continent’s energy transition. Through panels and side-events at COP29, Afreximbank will push for policies, investments, and mechanisms like green bonds and concessional loans to fund Africa’s climate projects and facilitate sustainable trade and development.
