Award-winning writer absent from major Algerian book fair

The international book fair in Algiers is missing the work of French-Algerian writer Kamel Daoud, whose novel “Houris” is banned in Algeria due to its focus on the country’s civil war. Despite winning France’s top literary prize, Daoud’s publisher was not allowed to display his works at the fair, where over 1,000 publishers from 40 countries are exhibiting. The ban has sparked controversy among authors and visitors, with some questioning the decision and others respecting the laws governing book publication in Algeria.
