TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 2. Uzbekistan’s imports totaled $3.08 billion in January 2024, marking a 4.1 percent increase compared to the previous year, as reported by Trend.

According to data from Uzbekistan’s Statistics Agency, machinery and transportation equipment accounted for 43.2 percent of the import structure, followed by industrial goods at 17.0 percent, and chemicals and similar products at 11.8 percent.

In January 2024, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 129 countries, with China, Russia, Kazakhstan, Korea, Turkey, Germany, and Turkmenistan accounting for the majority of imports.

Tashkent city had the largest share in the country’s import structure at 52.5 percent, amounting to $1.62 billion, while Surkhandarya had the smallest share at 0.5 percent, totaling $15.7 million.

The volume of imported services reached $227.9 million in January 2024, representing 7.4 percent of the total import volume, a 2.3 percent year-on-year increase.

Within the composition of services imports, travel (tourism) accounted for 59.0 percent, followed by transportation services at 19.4 percent, telecommunication, computer, and information services at 7.4 percent, and technical services at 4.6 percent.

Meanwhile, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover in January 2024 amounted to $4.2 billion, showing a decrease of $870.1 million or 17.2 percent compared to the previous year. Imports totaled $3.08 billion, marking a 4.1 percent increase.
