Pre-Wedding Ceremony for an Indian Billionaire’s Son Draws Big-Name Guests

When a member of one of India’s wealthiest families ties the knot, it’s a grand affair with guests ranging from royalty to business moguls and Bollywood stars, and even Rihanna. The pre-wedding celebrations for Anant Ambani, son of Reliance Industries’ head, are set to begin with a bang, attracting widespread attention in India.

The extravagant festivities, starting on Friday, highlight the stark wealth disparity in a country where economic growth coexists with widespread poverty. Anant Ambani, 28, and his fiancée Radhika Merchant, 29, kicked off the celebrations with a community feast earlier this week, hosting thousands of people and serving traditional Gujarati dishes.

The main event on Friday night will see over 1,000 guests, including global billionaires like Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg, as well as political figures and Bollywood celebrities. Luxurious arrangements such as chartered flights for guests and personal assistance with grooming are part of the extravagant affair.

The star-studded guest list is not just about socializing but also about networking with India’s influential business family. The presence of Bob Iger, amidst rumors of Nita Ambani taking the helm of a joint venture between Reliance and Disney, adds to the intrigue.

The Ambani family is known for their opulent weddings, with the current celebrations featuring handmade scarves as gifts and a variety of culinary delights prepared by specialty chefs. Despite the staggering wealth on display, lavish feasts are a common feature of Indian weddings across all economic strata.

The video invitation sets the tone for the themed events over three days, culminating in a traditional Indian wedding ceremony in July. The groom’s passion for animal welfare is reflected in the itinerary, including a visit to a conservation project.

The festivities promise to be a spectacle, showcasing the blend of tradition and extravagance that defines Indian weddings.
